We are super excited to be chosen to host a workshop titled Workshop on Big Data & Data Science in Retail at the IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM), a top-tier research conference in data mining. The workshop will bring together academic researchers and industry professionals from all over the world to present and discuss some of their high-quality research findings, and innovative solutions to challenging big data and machine learning problems in retail. The workshop will happen during the first half of the day on Nov 18th in New Orleans (Day 1 of the ICDM conference).
On a personal note, the process of hosting this workshop has been a hard but extremely fun process. We decided that our workshop will be a combination of invited talks and peer-reviewed research papers. That choice gave us the opportunity to invite some fantastic researchers in the big data space to serve on our paper review panel. With their help, we were able to accept 3 papers into the workshop. To complement these superb research talks, we have two amazing speakers from the industry; Philippe Beaudoin, Element AI (SVP Research Group) and Abon Chaudhuri, Walmart Labs (Note: Waleed to confirm). Rubikloud will also be presenting on the retail landscape and lead the discussion on some important problems in this space (Brian and Waleed??).
As a Data Scientist, I am looking forward to being in a room full of folks who can talk shop. Look forward to listening to different perspectives on all things data science, specifically in retail. Look forward to getting more industry insights on the “right” problems to be solved. Hopefully, this workshop gives all the attendees insight into solutions for existing research problems and ideas for new avenues of research in this space.
